A leaky pipe is never good news. Most homeowners would rather deal with a blocked drain any day than a leaky pipe. The biggest problem with leaks is that they can go on for days, weeks, or months without notice, and then they’re suddenly a serious issue. So today we’re going to look at several telltale signs of water leaks and what can cause them.
Signs of a Water Leak
Water leaks are not simple little harmless things that happen on occasion. They have the potential to be very dangerous because they can contaminate local water sources, damage your home or lawn, and even promote mold, mildew, and rot in the structure of your home. Signs of a water leak include:
- Reduction in Water Pressure
- Hissing or Dripping Behind a Wall
- Water Tastes Odd
- Water is Discolored
- Spots on the Ceiling or Pools of Water in the Floor
- Puddles in the Lawn without Recent Rainfall
- Obvious Oozing Water From Pipes
How Leaky Pipes Start
The pipes that carry water to various areas of your home generally last for many years. They may fail at any given time and it’s usually completely out of your control. Here are some reasons water pipes fail:
- Too Much Water Pressure
- Damage from Digging or Work by a Construction Crew
- Corrosion
- Age
- Tree Roots
Water Pipe Repair and Replacement
The scope of a pipe repair job is unknown until we can examine the root cause of the problem and determine what it will take to fix it. We may be able to use a CCTV camera system to see the interior of the pipes and make an assessment without digging any holes or tearing out any drywall.
