Sewer and Drain Cleaning: How Does Hydro Jetting Work?

Hydro jetting is one of the most effective ways to clean the drains in your home or office. Highly pressurized water is sent into the drains similar to the way a pressure washer works to clean your sidewalk or siding. The average hydro-jetting system uses about 4400 psi, which thoroughly cleans the interior of the pipes. Let’s look at a few ways hydro jetting works to remove blockages and clean your plumbing on the inside.

What Can Hydro Jetting Remove?

We use hydro jetting to remove a variety of blockages within all types of drains. It’s an effective way to unclog a toilet, bathroom sink drain, bath or shower, or the kitchen sink. It can remove silt, sand, food particles, hair clogs, scale, and other common things that cause clogs in the average American home.

Is Hydro Jetting Environmentally Friendly?

Yes! That’s one of the best parts about it; we don’t use any chemicals that will harm the environment, and the hydro-jetting system takes care of a lot of the dirty work for us. It breaks down tough blockages with pressurized water that pushes through the center and pulls at the sides of the blockage until it is washed down the drain.

Can Hydro Jetting Damage Plumbing?

Though generally not harmful to plumbing, hydro jetting can exacerbate some existing problems. Jetting does create pressure in the pipes, and it can increase the size of existing cracks, but it doesn’t cause new cracks. We never recommend a DIY hydro jetting because the lack of experience and training can lead to serious problems.

Can Hydro Jetting Cause Flooding?

Not usually, but very stubborn blockages may make the water come back up through the drain or into other drains in the home. This is yet another reason a trained plumbing professional should be in charge of the hydro-jetting system. We have all of the tools necessary to resolve any problems caused during the operation of our own equipment.
