How to Recognize the Signs of Drain Problems and Take Care of Them Quickly

Clogged drains are horrendous, and they always happen at the worst times! Most of the time, it is as you are trying to walk out the door to go to work in the morning or right before your company comes over for a long night of partying.

Here are 3 signs of drain problems:

  1. Water is Flowing Slowly

A slow-moving drain is always going to be the first sign that you will notice, and it signifies that you have a drain issue.

  1. Yucky Odors are Present

Whenever you smell something funky coming out of your drain, that is an instant cue that something could be majorly wrong.

  1. Water Rings are Present Near the Drain Floor

All those water rings that you see near your drains is showing you that the water is lingering longer than it should or that it is coming back up before going completely down.

There are many remedies that you can use for clogged drains, but some work better than others. Here are 3 ways to open a clogged drain:

  1. Use Baking Soda, Vinegar, and Hot Water

Sometimes a clogged drain can be easily fixed by adding some baking soda and vinegar to it and then flushing it all down with hot water. This will only work though if your drain is not completely plugged.

  1. Use a Plunger

Sometimes, the only way to remove a clog in a drain is to use a plunger to push it out of the way. You will need to form a tight seal between your plunger and your drain and then push up and down until the clog breaks.

  1. Use an Auger

There are times that your plunger is just not going to cut it, no matter how long you stand there pushing up and down. In those scenarios, you will need to use an auger, or a snake as it is often called, to remove the blockage. We urge you to use caution when you use an auger, as some pipes are more delicate than others, and can easily be broken.

If you have been experiencing a clogged drain more often lately, or you have one that simply won’t budge after using the tips above, it is time to call in a professional. They can have your drains back up and running in no time at all.
